When you need a new gas line or a gas line repair
Most gas jobs start with something new that needs gas, or a line that is not doing its job. These are the ones we see:
- A gas range or cooktop in place of an electric one.
- A gas water heater, or a switch to tankless.
- A dryer, a fireplace, or an outdoor grill.
- A shop or outbuilding that needs heat.
- A new home, an addition, or a commercial build-out.
- An old or damaged line that needs repair.
If the line you have can carry the new appliance, we tell you, and we branch off it instead of running a new line all the way from the meter or tank.
On the job
What we find on older gas lines
A line too small for the load
Add a tankless heater or a new range to a line sized for less, and the appliances on it can run short of gas when they run at the same time. We check the size before we connect anything new.
Buried lines past the meter
The gas utility does not look after buried pipe past the meter, such as a line out to a shop. Older buried metal pipe can corrode and leak, which is why utilities advise owners to have it checked.
Old flexible connectors
Older flexible connectors made of uncoated brass can fail where the fittings join the tube. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises replacing any you have and having a pro check them, since even moving the appliance can break a weak one.
What is included
What our gas line work includes
Each run is planned for the building and the appliances on it, and your estimate lists what is in your job. It usually covers:
Design and layout
We plan the route and size the pipe for every appliance the line will feed.
The pipe run
From the meter, or from where your propane supplier connects the tank, to each appliance.
Appliance connections
The final connection at each appliance, with its own shutoff valve.
Pressure test
The new line is tested for leaks under pressure before the gas is turned on.
Gas line repair
Leaking or damaged lines repaired, and runs too small for the load replaced with larger pipe, once the gas utility or your propane supplier has made any leak safe.
Commercial gas piping
Gas piping for commercial and industrial buildings, shops, and new builds. Building new? See new construction and commercial plumbing.

Do plumbers install gas lines?
Yes, many plumbers install gas lines, and gas piping is one of our main jobs. We run new lines, extend and repair existing ones, and connect the appliances, for natural gas and propane.
Who installs gas lines, the gas company or a plumber?
A licensed contractor, such as a plumber who does gas piping, installs the gas lines from the meter to your appliances; the gas utility only runs the line to the meter. The piping past the meter usually belongs to the property, not the utility. With propane, your supplier sets and connects the tank, and a contractor runs the piping from there.
Who can install a gas line for a stove?
A licensed plumber or gas piping contractor, such as Beyond Plumbing and Well, can install a gas line for a stove. We run the line from the meter, or from a nearby line that can carry it, to the range, add a shutoff valve, connect the stove, and test the line before the gas goes on.
How much does it cost to install a gas line?
The cost of a gas line installation comes down to the run: how far it goes from the meter or tank, how much gas the appliances draw, the route through or under the building, and whether the existing line can carry the load. That is why we look first. Estimates are free across Lane County and a reasonable drive beyond, and you get a clear estimate before work starts.
Do you install propane lines?
Yes, we run propane piping and connect the appliances, and your propane supplier sets and connects the tank.
Do you do commercial and industrial gas piping?
Yes, we work as the gas piping contractor on commercial and industrial jobs for business owners, builders, and general contractors, from design and layout to install. We are a member of the Eugene Builders Exchange, and we are with you every step of the project.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Leave the building right away, and do not flip switches or use a phone until you are outside. From a safe distance, call your gas utility, your propane supplier, or 911. Once they have made it safe, we can handle the gas line repair.
