Drain cleaning
When a clogged drain needs a plumber
A plunger clears plenty of clogs. These are the signs a clog is past its reach:
- Water stands in the tub or shower, or drains slower every week.
- The kitchen sink backs up, or fills when the dishwasher drains.
- Drains in more than one room back up at once, or water comes up in the tub when the toilet flushes.
- The same drain clogs again a few days after you clear it.
Water coming up where it should not? Stop flushing and running water until the drain is cleared, so the backup does not get worse. The quickest way to reach us is a call to (541) 914-9952.
On the job
Tubs, sinks, and main lines
Stubborn tubs
Hair and soap build up until the tub drain clogs and the water stands. We clear the line so the tub drains the way it should.
Clogged kitchen sinks
Cooking fat and food scraps cool and stick inside the drain line from the sink, and the clog grows until the sink backs up. We clear the line so the sink and the dishwasher drain again.
Main line clogs
When a sink in one room and a tub in another back up together, the clog is usually in the main line. We run the drain snake down that line to reach it.
What is included
What our drain cleaning service includes
Your estimate spells out what is in your job. A drain call covers these:
Finding the clog
Which drains are slow, and what sets them off, tells us whether the clog sits in one fixture's line or in the main line.
Clearing it with a drain snake
A drain snake is a steel cable that turns as it feeds into the line. It breaks up the clog or pulls it out, and the water runs again.
A straight answer
We tell you what came out of the line. If the pipe itself looks to be the problem, we say so, and the choice of what comes next is yours.

How much does drain cleaning cost?
The cost of drain cleaning comes down to the drain: whether it is one sink or tub or the main line, how easy the line is to reach, and what is in it. That is why we look first. Estimates are free across Lane County and a reasonable drive beyond, and you get a clear estimate before work starts.
Is professional drain cleaning worth it?
Professional drain cleaning is worth it when a plunger has not cleared the drain or the clog keeps coming back. A drain snake reaches the clog inside the line, where a plunger cannot. If a plunger clears it for good, you do not need a plumber.
What is a main line clog?
A main line clog is a blockage in the main drain line that carries everything out of the house. Every drain empties into it, so drains in more than one room back up together, and water often comes up in the tub or shower when the toilet flushes. We do main line drain cleaning with the drain snake, run in through a cleanout, a capped opening on the line, where the house has one.
How often should drains be cleaned?
Most household drains do not need cleaning on a schedule: a drain needs clearing when it slows down or clogs. A drain that clogs again and again usually has a reason, such as what goes down it or the pipe itself, and we tell you which one it looks to be. For a kitchen drain, scrape plates and pour cooled cooking fat into a container for the trash; MWMC, the Eugene-Springfield wastewater commission, offers residents a free kit for it.
How soon can you come out for a clogged drain?
We reply the same business day, Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm, and set a time to come out. A request sent in the evening or on a weekend gets a reply the next business day. The quickest way to reach us is a call to (541) 914-9952, and Ethan answers the phone himself. If sewage is backing up into the house, stop flushing and running water everywhere, the dishwasher and washing machine included, and keep people and pets out of it.
Should I use a chemical drain cleaner first?
Chemical drain cleaners are best skipped. They are corrosive and can damage older pipes. When one does not clear the clog, the drain is left holding a chemical that can burn skin or eyes if it splashes. If you have already poured one in, tell us before we start.
